Below is a listing of flower varieties, mostly heirlooms, which are working on producing

this year - quantities of some are limited.  This list was last updated 4/19/2008.

Flowers are $2.00 per 3" pot unless otherwise noted.

ANNUALS

 

Annuals grow, bloom and die in one season. Many will self sow if seed pods are allowed to ripen.

 

 

Black-Eyed Susan Vines - 5-8’ tall climbers that bear black-eyed flowers all summer and through the fall.  Full sun to part shade.  Good container plant.

Calendulas are easy to grow, hardy annuals that reach 1.5-2’ tall and bloom all summer and fall, withstanding light frosts.  Full sun.  Long lasting cut flower.  Edible blooms.

· Calendula Touch of Red-Orange

 

·       Castor Oil Bean Carmencita -Impressive tropical plant with huge reddish leaves that can reach up to 10’ in height!  Full sun.  NOTE:  Seeds are highly toxic!  Sometimes self sows.  1GAL POT - $10.00

 

·       Coleus Giant Exhibition Mix - Coleus make great container plants that can be brought inside for all-winter enjoyment.  1-2’ tall.  Full sun to part shade.

 

Cosmos - Fast growing annuals that reach 2.5 -5’ tall and require little care.  Full sun.  Good cut flower.  Sometimes self sows.

· Cosmos Ladybird (yellow,2.5’)

· Cosmos Polidor (shades of orange; 2.5’)

· Cosmos Psyche White (ruffled centers; 3-4’)

Datura - Lovely scented trumpets on shrubby plants to 3’ tall.  Full  sun.  Poisonous.  Self sows.

· Datura Evening Fragrance (white w/light lavender edge)

 

Gentian Sage - Flowers are true blue!  1.5-2’ tall.  Full sun to part shade.  Good cut flower.

·       Heliotrope Marine (dark purple) - Fragrant blooms attract butterflies all summer long on these 1.5’ tall plants.  Full sun.  Good cut flower.

 

·       Mexican Sunflower (orange with yellow center) - Butterflies love them!  6’ tall.  Full sun.  Good cut flower.

 

·       Millet (purple) - Very attractive dark foliage makes this 4-5’ tall plant an excellent addition to mixed containers and a great accent plant in the garden.  Full sun.  Drought tolerant.

  

·       Petunia Rainmaster - Very fragrant white flowers bloom on branching plants to 2’ tall.  Full sun.  Attracts butterflies.  Self sows.

 

·       Purple Bell Vine - Dainty purple bells bloom in summer through late fall on vines that can reach up to 10’.  Great in hanging pots, too.  Full sun.

 

Salvias - These useful annuals are great in mixed containers as well as in the garden.  Full sun to part shade.  Attracts hummingbirds.

Marigolds - These carefree 10-12” tall heat loving annuals are covered with tiny single flowers all summer long.  Full sun.  Citrus scented foliage.  Good cut flower.  Edible blooms.  Sometimes self sows.

· Signet Marigold Lemon Gem (yellow)

· Signet Marigold Starfire (red, orange mix)

 

·   Slipper Flower - Puffy yellow flowers bloom all summer on 10” tall plants.  Makes a great houseplant, too!  Full sun.

 

Spiderflower - An old-fashioned, heat tolerant annual that grows 3-5’ tall and blooms all summer.  Full sun.  Attracts butterflies.  Good cut flower.  Self sows.

Sweet Alyssum - Clusters of tiny fragrant flowers bloom on 4-10” tall plants.  Great for the garden’s edge or in pots.  Full sun to part shade.  Attracts butterflies.

· Sweet Alyssum Wonderland Mix (lavender, pink & white mix; 4”)

 

·   Texas Sage Dwarf Hummingbird - The bright red flowers of this 1.5’ tall plant attract hummingbirds, summer to fall.  Full sun.  Good cut flower.

 

Tobacco - Fragrant flowers bloom summer to frost on strong plants that can reach to 4’ tall.  Full sun to part shade.  Attracts hummingbirds.  Self sows.

Violas - Cool weather plants that grow 4-6” tall and bloom profusely in spring and again in fall.  Full sun to part shade.  Edible.

Zinnia - Some of the easiest, most carefree annuals to grow, zinnias range from 6” to 4’ tall and come in a wide variety of colors and forms.  Full sun.  Butterfly magnets!  Excellent cut flower.

BIENNIALS & PERENNIALS

 

Biennials grow the first year, bloom the second year, then die.  Many biennials self sow.  Perennials grow the first year and bloom every year thereafter.

 

·       Apple Blossom Grass - Wands of white to pale pink flowers bloom summer to fall.  4-5’ tall.  Full sun to part shade.  Drought tolerant.

·       Balloon Flower Mother of Pearl - Pretty soft pink flowers bloom in summer.  2-3’ tall.  Full sun to part shade.

·       Bee Balm - Hummingbirds can’t resist these shaggy red flowers!  Summer bloom.  3-4’ tall.  Full sun to part shade.  Spreads quickly.

 

·       Butterfly Weed - Masses of flowers bloom midsummer to fall and are irresistible to butterflies.  2-3’ tall.

 

·       Cardinal Flower - 1/2 gallon container - $8.00

 

Columbines begin blooming in late spring and will rebloom if dead flower stalks are removed.  1-2’ tall.  Full sun to part shade.  Attracts hummingbirds.  Self sows.

· Assorted Columbines in 8" pots - $8.00

 

·       Coral Bells Firefly - A large-flowering variety with fragrant vivid red blooms that attract hummingbirds.  1.5’ tall.  Summer bloom.  Best in part shade to mostly shade, but will tolerate full sun. 

 

·       Delphinium - Prairie Larkspur - Late spring bloomer with flowers spikes that may be anywhere from white to green to blue to purple in color!  1-3’ tall.  Full sun to part shade.  Poisonous.

 

·  Delphinium - Blue Butterfly 1'

 

·       Everlasting Pea Pink Pearl - 5-6’ tall climber that blooms in spring to early summer.  Full sun to part shade.  Seeds poisonous.

 

·       False Indigo - A 4-5’ tall long lived plant that bears purple-blue pea-like flowers in summer.  Full sun.

 

Foxgloves are late spring bloomers with spikes of flowers that open in succession from bottom to top.  Attracts hummingbirds.  Full sun to part shade.  Self sows.  Poisonous.

· Foxglove Primrose Carousel (biennial; 2-3’)

· Foxglove Sutton’s Apricot (biennial; 3-6’)

· Foxglove - Strawberry (2-3’) LIMITED

    

·       Gas Plant - Long lived plant with spikes of pink flowers.  Requires a few years to become established.  Once planted, do not disturb the roots.  Full sun to part shade.  Poisonous.

 

·       Gentian – Striped - An attractive mat forming perennial with spikes of light blue flowers that have dark blue veining.  1.5’ tall.  Spring to summer bloom.  Full sun to part shade. LIMITED

 

·       Giant Evening Star - Large white fragrant flowers open in the evening on 3-4’ tall plants.  Full sun.  Drought tolerant.

 

·       Golden Chain Tree - Beautiful shade tree with 12-18” hanging clusters of yellow pea-like flowers that bloom in spring to early summer.  With time, it will grow 15-20’ tall.  Full sun to part shade.  Poisonous. LIMITED

 

·       Helenium Helena Mix - A very pretty mix of orange, rust, gold and yellow flowers on 3-4’ tall hardy plants.  Blooms summer through fall.  Full sun.

 

·       Hibiscus - Rose Mallow - Large pink flowers bloom in summer on a 4-6’ tall branched shrub.  (I have had one of these plants bloom maroon and one white, but the majority are pink w/maroon eye.)  Full sun.

 

Hollyhock - Wonderful old-fashioned flowers whose 6-8’ tall stalks bloom in summer.  Full sun.

· Hollyhock Rugose (single yellow) LIMITED

· Hollyhock - Single Red

 

·       Italian Alkanet Dropmore - True blue flowers grow in spikes on this 2-3’ tall spring bloomer.  Full sun.

 

·       Lavender Hidcote - Spikes of purple flowers bloom in summer on this wonderfully fragrant plant.  Full sun.  Great cut/dried flower.  Edible.

 

Mallow - Striped mallow bears larger flowers on strong branching plant, while white mallow has smaller flowers on a shorter, bushier plant.  Both bloom from summer through fall and require full sun.  Self sows.

· Mallow - Striped (light purple w/dark purple stripes; 3-4’)

· Mallow - White (1.5-2’)

 

·       Monkshood Blue Bishop - 3-6’ tall spikes of purple flowers bloom in fall.  Part shade to shade.  Poisonous.

 

Poppy - Late spring bloom.  Full sun.  Self sows.

· Poppy Double Tangerine Gem (2’)

· Poppy Princess Victoria Louise (pink; 2-2.5’)

 

·       Salvia Blue Spires - Dark purple spikes bloom all summer long and attract hummingbirds.  2-3’ tall.  Full sun.  Good cut flower. LIMITED

 

·       Sunflower Maximilian - This 4-8’ tall branching sunflower is covered with yellow blooms from late summer through fall.  The flowers are a butterfly food source and birds love the abundant seeds!  Full sun.

 

·       Veronica Pink Goblin - Spikes of soft pink bloom in summer on this 1-2’ tall perennial.  Full sun to part shade.  Spreads quickly.
